Sierra Nevada launches on Saturday 2 July the summer facilities and programmes with which the ski resort of Granada opens to the enjoyment and knowledge of the high mountain with summer activities of nature, sport, astronomy and music for all audiences.

This Saturday the resort will open the summer ski lifts (Borreguiles cable car and Veleta chairlift) and the Mirlo Blanco activities area, which will be joined next weekend by the heated swimming pool at the Montebajo sports club and the Trevenque aparthotel.

It will also be the starting signal for the sports, cultural, nature and astronomy programmes. This opening weekend will start with two of the most popular summer activities in the resort, such as the sunrises and sunsets from the Veleta. The first sporting event of the season will also take place with the fearsome Vertical Kilometre of Sierra Nevada.

From then on, more than 40 activities will take place mainly on weekends until the end of the summer season on 28 August.

If the astronomy programme, together with the sunrises and sunsets from El Veleta, will have its most awaited activity in the Night of the Perseids, the cultural programme will recover this summer's collaboration with the FEX to offer a concert by the group Apache (8 July). However, the rock festival Sierra Nevada por Todo lo Alto will once again be the highlight of the summer music programme (19 and 20 August).

The hiking and nature activities will once again revolve around the lagoons around the Veleta and the headwaters of the river Dílar, and the peaks closest to Pradollano, such as the Veleta, Tajos de la Virgen, Elorrieta and Mulhacén.

The recovery of the Sierra Nevada Triathlon and the change of route of the Sierra Nevada Límite are the most important new features of the sports calendar, which will include classic races such as the Vertical Kilometre, the Veleta Cycle Tour and the Pico Veleta International Hill Climb.

The festivity of the Virgen de las Nieves in Pradollano, from 4 to 7 August, will once again include, after two years of suspension, the traditional pilgrimage to the Tajos de la Virgen.

During the summer, a good number of restaurants and accommodation establishments will guarantee the summer enjoyment of the Sierra Nevada, where the high mountain scenery and mild temperatures will once again be the main attractions.
