Limitations and prohibitions on the use of skateboards, bicycles and drones.

ACTIVITIES WITH PRIOR AGREEMENT

The rest of the activities that are practiced in the snow require a prior agreement with the Resort on the modalities of use of slopes and ski lifts. In the safety information disseminated by Sierra Nevada there are specific guidelines on various modes of use such as the following:

  • Sitting skiing for physical disability.
  • Intellectual disability.
  • Pedestrians.
  • Bicycles and snow skateboards.
  • Electric bicycles.

ACTIVITIES NOT ACCEPTED OR SUBJECT TO CONDITIONS

  • For safety reasons, access to the ski lifts with dogs, sleds, shovels or plastics is prohibited.
  • Walking on the ski slopes can lead to collisions with descending skiers. For snowshoe excursions, you should ask at the Borreguiles Control Tower if it is possible to do circuits that do not interfere with the slopes.
  • In the same way, going upstream with mountain skis and seal skins on an open slope is dangerous and can cause collisions. Practitioners of this specialty must abide by the published user guide.
  • Electric bikes equipped with fat wheels or fatbikes allow you to climb on groomed slopes, but they are dangerous for downhill skiers. Practitioners of this specialty must abide by the published user guide.
  • Entering the closed slopes during the day or outside of opening hours is very dangerous. For example, machines can be found working, sometimes with winch cables that reach 1,200 m in length.
  • Sliding devices that are not attached to the body could fall from a chairlift onto other people and therefore cannot be accepted.
  • Sliding with sleds out of the areas prepared for it is a frequent cause of serious accidents and this practice cannot be accepted either.
  • The use of paragliding or snowkiting is limited by the danger it poses to ski lifts and other users. It is necessary for the Runway Service to designate take-off and landing areas, through the Borreguiles Control Tower, if it is possible to confirm that this practice is safe for the rest of the users at that time.
  • Children under 1.25m tall are not allowed to climb the lifts alone, they must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Current legislation prohibits smoking in the ski lifts and in the access queues.

Usage Guides

Cetursa Sierra Nevada S.A. promotes the enjoyment of snow for everyone, whatever their physical conditions and the device they use to slide. However, the use of sliding devices other than downhill skiing and snowboarding can pose safety concerns, both for those who use them and for other users. For this reason, you will only be allowed to use the snow skateboard, snow bike and snow skates subject to the following conditions:

  1. The user must request authorisation on the day of use at the User Service Centre and sign the specific conditions of use for that activity.
  2. The user agrees to slide only on the green and blue slopes and related ski lifts for such use.
  3. For reasons of efficiency in loading the Emile Allais chairlift, the use of snow bicycles is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. For security reasons, access to the river track will be restricted from 3:30 p.m.
  4. The user of the devices listed in the heading must respect the FIS rules and behave on the slopes in the same way as other skiers.
  5. Cetursa Sierra Nevada S.A. may deny authorisation for use in the event of ice or other adverse conditions.
  6. The pass enabled for the use of these devices is the ski pass. The gondola lift tickets do not qualify for the use of the slopes.
  7. Failure to comply with the conditions set out in the previous points will result in the revocation of the authorisation.

Cetursa Sierra Nevada S.A. promotes the enjoyment of snow for everyone, whatever their physical conditions and the device they use to slide. However, electric bicycles can pose safety concerns, both for those who use them and for other users. For this reason, its use will only be permitted subject to the following conditions:

  • The ascending route will enter through the Borreguiles Road to the Nevasol restaurant.
  • The descending route will go along Carretera Borreguiles and tracks Ribera del Genil, Directa and Puerta de Elvira.
  • The ascent will always be done on the left of the path and the descent will always be on the right.
  • Both the ascent and descent must be done in a row of one.
  • Reflective vests must be worn so that the cyclist is visible.
  • Special attention must be paid to skiers who descend at the crossroads of slopes and in areas of high influx. The guide must get off the bike to give way to his clients without interfering with the skiers who get off.
  • It is necessary to respect the signage and indications of the members of the Slope Service.
  • The routes will be operational during operating hours, from the opening to closing of the runways. Cetursa reserves the right to prohibit the practice of electric bicycles if it considers that the necessary safety or operational conditions are not met.

The electric bicycle practitioner who travels through the ski area must remember the following.

  • You should know that when you go up, the flow of skiers is going in the opposite direction. In the event of a crash, the electric bike user does not have the right of way and could be exposed to civil or criminal liability.
  • Likewise, the ascent or descent on closed slopes entails risks of collision with machines that prepare the slopes or snowmobiles and for this reason it is prohibited. Particular attention must be paid to machines equipped with a winch whose cable is more than one kilometre long. The danger of collision with these machines or the cables they use for their work can be deadly.
  • In the event of an accident and if the help of the Slope Service is required, the lifeguards will try to help the injured parties, whenever possible without abandoning their responsibility to maintain safety on the slopes. As the users of electric bicycles are not customers of the Station, the redemptions will be charged according to the current rate. Users are advised to have accident and liability insurance.
  • The electric bicycle in the ski area is made under the sole responsibility of the user. Cetursa Sierra Nevada expressly declines any responsibility for a practice that is not covered by the acquisition of a pass for the use of the Resort.

The use of drones in the Sierra Nevada ski and mountain resort is regulated by specific regulations that prohibit their flight in the area for reasons of safety and protection of the environment. According to resort regulations and national civil aviation regulations, drones cannot fly in restricted access areas, such as ski resorts, due to the following factors:

  1. Safety: Drones can pose a risk to resort users, especially in high-traffic areas or near chairlifts and ski lifts. The presence of drones in areas with people can cause accidents or interfere with safety equipment.
  2. Interference with station operations: The airspace at the station can be used by rescue helicopters, emergency vehicles, or aircraft, so drone flight could interfere with these critical operations, compromising safety.
  3. Environmental protection: Sierra Nevada is a protected natural park, and the use of drones can alter the fauna and flora of the area, especially in areas sensitive to human presence. In addition, drones can cause disturbance to animals, especially local bird species.
  4. EASA (Spanish Aviation Safety Agency) regulations: At the national level, the EASA establishes restrictions on the use of drones in spaces near airports, urban areas or areas of special protection, such as Sierra Nevada. This regulation limits the use of drones without the corresponding authorization, which is only granted in specific circumstances, under control and in certain areas.

Therefore, users should be aware that the use of drones is prohibited in many areas within the Sierra Nevada ski resort, and those who wish to fly drones must comply with local regulations and obtain the appropriate permits.
