The internal regulations ATUDEM, an association that includes the vast majority of Spanish resorts, considers the skiable area of a station to be the area that is accessed by its ski lifts, within which skiing it is possible to return by gravity to the base of the station or to another lift.

The ski area is divided into:

Slope area: includes the set of slopes, that is, the routes prepared and possibly conditioned, reserved for the practice of skiing, snowboarding and other authorized activities. You can only ski on the slopes previously opened by the Station.
Itineraries: It is understood as such, those routes, not prepared or conditioned by the Station, suitable only for expert skiers. They are considered assimilable to the "off-piste" area. The itinerary is covered under the sole responsibility of the skier or his teacher or guide. The Station will open and close the itineraries depending solely on the presence or absence of snow, which will not be treated in its natural state. Skiers must be informed, before entering an itinerary, of the risk of avalanches reported by the Station.
Off-piste area: It is that area which is not supervised by the station and is not its responsibility, although it is within its skiable domain, skiers can access them whether or not they come from the ski lifts of the station, but the consequences to themselves or to third parties, which may be caused by their action, are at your own risk.
Although the resort can provide general information about the weather or avalanche hazards, the off-piste skier evolves under his responsibility or that of his teacher or guide because it is an area not marked or protected from the dangers of the mountain.
Unprepared and unmarked areas located between the runways or on the edges of the tracks are considered "off-piste" areas.
