- The ski resort opens this weekend 4 runs with decorations and interactive elements for families to have fun.
Sierra Nevada opens this weekend its four fully themed slopes, one of the new features of the ski resort for the 2023/24 season, which aim to make the ski day more fun for children and their parents. 
Thus, new figures and ski circuits have been added to the El Mar slope, which had allegorical elements of the seabed, before reaching the mouth of the shark, which is one of the icons of the slope.
Further down, in the beginners' area, is the Kids Fun Trail, where young skiers can interact with forest and mountain animals and descend a skills circuit.    
 In the Loma de Dilar area, the Family Fun Trail has been installed, a route where children and families can go down the slopes by negotiating interactive elements, including punching bags, spinning hands, a coin to crash, a xylophone and a tunnel to make the descent more fun.
In the Cauchiles ski area, a circuit has been set up with totems indicating the entrance and exit of the Iberian fauna: the Cauchiles Fun Trail, where users will also find different elements to interact with, such as rotating hands, punching bags, bumping hands and a xylophone.

Sierra Nevada begins the 23/24 winter season with the biggest investment in its history

LIFTS
The most significant action in terms of investment and impact on the ski area is the installation of four new lifts in the Sierra Nevada for the new season. If last season the challenge of putting two new chairlifts into operation - replacing two old ones - was already formidable, this season Sierra Nevada has taken a further leap towards modernising its facilities, and the transport and distribution of users, with the replacement of the old Al Ándalus gondola lift (33 years in service), the installation of two new chairlifts between Loma de Dílar and El Río, and an initiation carpet on the Borreguiles plain.
All four, if there are no construction problems, will come into operation almost simultaneously between the Puente de la Constitución and the start of the Christmas holidays.
The new Al Ándalus, with an investment of 16.7 million euros (co-financed with FEDER React funds), is a state-of-the-art gondola lift that is faster, more comfortable and more energy efficient. It will have 19 towers (compared to the 25 of the old one), 77 cabins (with a capacity of 10 people per cabin), a linear route of 2.5 kilometres (between Pradollano and Borreguiles), a speed of up to 6 metres/second and a travel time of 8.5 minutes.
The ski lifts El Puente I and II will serve an existing ski area (Víbora, Montebajo, Villén and El Puente slopes) where a new Sierra Nevada training and competition area will now be promoted. This will decongest the Monachil chairlift and the Loma de Dílar area, where at present - especially at weekends - Andalusian racing teams and tourist skiers mix, creating traffic problems and possibly safety problems.
With the transfer of training sessions and official races to the El Puente area, a competition stadium will be created, equipped for the high performance of Andalusian racers. The double ski lift, which competitors will have preferential, but not exclusive, use, has a cost of 4.1 million euros, of which 2.5 million euros corresponds to the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Tourism and Sports (the rest, 1.6 million euros is paid by Cetursa), which subsidised the project to support the clubs and the 3,000 athletes of the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation (FADI).
The fourth lift is an initiation carpet in Borreguiles; the Dauro II carpet will cross the Borreguiles plain diagonally; this new carpet marks the beginning of the remodelling of the beginners' area with the aim of creating a semi-enclosed area where beginners can learn in safe conditions and in a fun atmosphere. The new carpet has a double ribbon with a gallery, 179 metres long and a capacity of 1,500 people/hour.

SNOW PRODUCTION
The renovation of the nerve centre of snow production in Sierra Nevada completed this summer has closed the great transformation of the system undertaken five seasons ago with the replacement of almost all of the old cannons with the latest generation devices, now more effective and efficient.
Thus, this summer, in addition to the incorporation of 32 new high and low pressure cannons, it has been the turn of changing the old compressors and water pumps, the 'heart' of the snow produced in the resort, which are more than 40 years old.
The new compressors are smaller and less powerful than the old ones (they require four times less electrical power) and their air consumption in relation to the water converted into snow is 25 times lower. This means that the new compressors are adapted at all times to the real compressed air needs of the new cannons installed in Sierra Nevada.
Furthermore, the so-called compressor building, which has been completely refurbished, will no longer be the only one housing these compressed air generation devices, but will be distributed by zones (Loma de Dílar) to optimise production, minimise energy loss, and reduce the time needed to activate the system, thus making more efficient use of lower temperatures.
The renovation of snow production at the Granada resort, co-financed with more than 5 million euros in ERDF React funds, will include changes to other electrical systems and water pipes installed over the years, making the Sierra Nevada snow production system one of the most modern, environmentally and energetically sustainable in the entire winter sports sector.

HYBRID SNOW GROOMING MACHINES
This season, Cetursa Sierra Nevada incorporates 4 new hybrid snow grooming machines, making the Granadan winter resort, with 8 in total, a world leader in the use of sustainable machines for grooming and snow maintenance in the ski area.
Sierra Nevada already had 4 Pisten Bully 600 E+, with combined diesel and electric propulsion, which reduce energy consumption and produce 20% less CO2 emissions, as well as being quieter. The arrival of the new machines means the "retirement" of four of the older ones.
The new machines, designed and manufactured - like the previous ones - by Kässbohrer, the German multinational awarded the public tender, are co-financed by the Andalusian ERDF Operational Programme through the REACT-EU resources for energy saving projects.
The autonomy of the hybrid conveyor belts, understood as the refuelling interval, is greater than that of the conventional Pisten Bully 600, thanks to its lower fuel consumption. Intelligent energy management ensures that the electric motors function as generators and support the hydraulic pumps via the distribution box during descents.
On the other hand, Sierra Nevada - which has a total of 22 treadmill machines - will test HVO biodiesel as a sustainable fuel during the 23/24 season. The tests will be carried out with two machines to see how it responds and how it is used.

THEMED SLOPES
This season, Sierra Nevada will have 4 new themed slopes to make the skiing day more fun for children and their parents. Thus, new figures and ski circuits will be added to the El Mar slope, which had allegorical elements of the seabed, before reaching the shark's mouth, which is one of the icons of the slope.
Further down, in the beginners' area, there will be the Kids Fun Trail, where the youngest skiers will be able to interact with forest and mountain animals and go down a skills circuit.
In the Montebajo area, the Family Fun Trail will be set up, where families will be able to go down the slopes by means of interactive elements, while in Cauchiles there will be a route with a theme related to the Iberian fauna.

INFORMATION ON WAITING TIMES
This season, Sierra Nevada is implementing a special access control system which, by means of special people counting cameras, will extract information on the approximate waiting times for boarding the ski lifts, with the ultimate aim of providing customers with the best options for accessing or enjoying the ski areas.
The system will be implemented in particularly significant ski lifts in the Sierra Nevada: the two cable cars, the Jara, Monachil, Stadium and Laguna chairlifts. The information will be displayed on the lift screens and, alternatively, the most popular access and skiing areas will be recommended.
In addition to the physical screens, the same information will be available on the resort's website and App.

Essential skiing equipment

Skiing is the winter sport par excellence, and although it is healthy and a great way to keep fit even during the coldest months of the year, not using the most essential skiing equipment can be a real danger for any skier. That's why we're going to take a look at which items of skiing equipment are essential to ensure safe and successful skiing.
Ski equipment and accessories 
Skiing equipment is the foundation on which any athlete who wants to glide over the snow must stand. There are elements of the ski equipment that are compulsory and others that are necessary to guarantee the physical integrity of the athlete, and below we highlight those that for us are absolutely non-negotiable.
Ski jacket and trousers
 Jackets and trousers are two key elements of skiing equipment, as they protect the skier's body from the cold outside. Both should be warm, but also waterproof to keep the wearer dry and, if possible, ensure a windproof effect. After all, skiing takes place in a snowy environment, so there is no need to worry about the skier maintaining an optimum body temperature during the entire sporting session.
Of course, both jacket and trousers must comply with the following:

<li>Allow correct range of movement.</li>
<li>Be breathable so that sweat does not accumulate on the inside.</li>
<li>Fit snugly to prevent hypothermia.</li>
<li>Breathable base layer</li>
<li>As well as being comfortable, it is important that skiers' base clothing is breathable, which means that it allows sweat to pass through to the outside so that it does not accumulate and cool down on the skiers' skin.</li>
<li>It is advisable to wear a breathable thermal T-shirt under ski clothing and, if possible, to wear thermal underwear that is also breathable. </li>
</ul>

Ski gloves 
Gloves or mittens are essential for skiers, as they are the only textile layer that separates the cold air and snow from the delicate skin of the hands. In addition, ski gloves have a double function, as they provide a better grip when using elements such as poles, allowing you to achieve greater control over them and, therefore, also to enjoy greater fluidity in your movements.
This is why ski gloves should be the right size and have the following characteristics: Breathability. Waterproofing. Thermal insulation.
Ski helmet The helmet is not a compulsory item in Spain, but it is still a vitally important piece of basic ski equipment. It protects the head, the most sensitive part of the human body, from any blow that could cause serious injury.
Its purpose is to prevent any kind of bone injury to the skull and other types of trauma that can be fatal to human life. It is important that the helmet is the right size and fits snugly on the skier's head.
Ski goggles The sun is even more damaging at high altitudes where the whole environment is tinted white. That's why ski goggles are such an important accessory for skiers, as they protect the eyes from ultraviolet rays, but also from snow and debris that may be suspended in the wind.
But that's not all: ski goggles with anti-fog treatment and polarised lenses also allow for better visibility, which is a very positive factor when practising this sport.
Hat and neck warmer 
The cap and neck warmer are responsible for covering and protecting two of the most delicate parts of the neck for the skier's health. The neck warmer also serves to cover the nose and mouth in extremely cold conditions.
As for the cap, it is best not to wear it under the ski helmet, as it can have a negative influence on the grip of the helmet, which is essential to guarantee its usefulness in a fall on skis. Both items of ski equipment should be made of breathable and windproof fabrics. 
Ski back protectors
Ski back protectors are highly recommended ski equipment for beginner skiers or skiers who practice modalities such as freestyle or off-piste skiing.
The main reason for this is that they protect both the spine and the lumbar area from possible falls, which can be very serious depending on how they occur.
Other skiing accessories
In addition to the ski equipment we have already mentioned, there are other interesting options to consider before heading down the mountain:
Ski wristbands: As with the knees, the wrists are very exposed when skiing. Good quality ski wristbands ensure that your wrists are protected from knocks and falls.
Ski socks: They should insulate from the cold, but also be comfortable and breathable so that the feeling of dry feet lasts all day in the snow.
Ski backpack: It must be light and fit perfectly on the skier's back and shoulders. It is essential to carry some water, food, tools and a mobile phone to call for help if necessary.
Also, knowing how to choose the most appropriate ski equipment (skis or board, boots and poles), according to the level of skiing and snowboarding, is essential so that everything goes according to plan and we can enjoy snow sports.

Mobile skipass, new Sierra Nevada ski pass on your mobile phone

The ski pass on your mobile phone is now a reality! 
In Sierra Nevada it is now possible, thanks to BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology, that you can purchase and carry your ski pass on your mobile phone with which you can access the slopes in the same way as with a conventional ski pass and without having to take out your mobile phone or manipulate it.
Sierra Nevada, always committed to innovation and the digital future, offers its customers an innovative system in the world of snow that allows skiers to carry their ski pass on their mobile phone and activate it from the resort's own APP, without the need for customers to download third-party APPs.
In addition to the technological and avant-garde aspect that this system brings, Sierra Nevada aims to considerably reduce the emission of chip card holders as part of its commitment to the environment.
And don't worry, you can still listen to your favourite music, connect to your social networks and check your email whenever you want. It's fully compatible with all the daily tasks you do on your mobile.
If you're someone who prefers to get lost and not be called while skiing, no problem because your Mobile Skipass will work, even if your phone is in aeroplane mode.
And the best of all is that you can do it from the Sierra Nevada APP that you already know, you will not need to download any other third-party application. The first time you use the service you will be asked for permissions to access the Bluetooth, it is important that you accept them for proper operation.
Although the use of the app and the Mobile Skipass will not use up much of your battery during the skiing day (5-10%), as always when you come to the mountain, we advise and ask you to bring your mobile phone fully charged.

2. Buy and download your ski pass on your mobile phone from the online shop or at the ticket offices where you will be given a QR to download the ski pass on your mobile phone.
3. Accept the permissions in the application.
4. Leave the application activated on your mobile.
5. Put your phone in the left side pocket of your jacket and go through the turnstile as usual.
What happens if I forget my phone or run out of battery?
In this case, you will have to go to the user service centre or to the Borreguiles ticket office, if you are already on the slopes, to request a change of holder. 
Can I share my Mobile Skipass? 
No, just like the conventional ski pass, the mobile skipass is personal and non-transferable.
What happens if I change my mobile phone and I already have my mobile skipass activated? 
In this case, you must go to the customer service centre and request the change to the new device. As soon as the change takes place, the mobile skipass on your old mobile phone will no longer work. I have the App and I don't see the Mobile Skipass top-up option. Make sure that you are registered in the App with the same email address as in the retail centre.

Find out what's new in the Sierra Nevada this summer

Not everybody likes summers at the beach and swimming pool, with their hustle and bustle to find a place for an umbrella or their queues to eat in any bar. A different and adventurous alternative for the youngest members of the family is to enjoy the Sierra Nevada and its summer activities. Every year it offers fun plans that also allow children to get to know a unique environment.
This summer, the resort returns to its summer event with its usual star proposals and with many new features, so that those who choose Sierra Nevada can enjoy an unforgettable summer.
The classics
Those who are already familiar with Sierra Nevada's summer activities know what its strong points are: the ski lifts, the swimming pool and the popular White Blackbird.
 Ski lifts. Sierra Nevada is once again opening a cable car and chairlift to go up from Pradollano to near the Veleta, where the views are breathtaking. It is possible to reach the summit until 27 August to contemplate an unbeatable landscape.
Swimming pool. The heated swimming pool of the Montebajo Sports Club opens its retractable roof so you can enjoy the most magical dip: surrounded by nature in Pradollano. It is open every day of the summer and is a great alternative to get away from the heat and noise.
White Blackbird. This is the most popular attraction for summer visitors to Sierra Nevada. This amusement park awaits visitors full of fun for the whole family at the end of the El Río slope, just a few metres from Pradollano. In the absence of snow for skiing or tobogganing, Mirlo Blanco is also an adrenaline rush with numerous options that not only impress the youngest members of the family.
Any day is a good day to enjoy a day out with family or friends at the resort, making fresh and original plans in a stunning location. The ski lifts, the swimming pool and the Mirlo Blanco amusement park are the most traditional proposals, but Sierra Nevada offers much more in summer.
What's new in Sierra Nevada: summer activities
The best thing about Sierra Nevada and its summer activities is that every year it offers new experiences for all ages, whether you want to enjoy them in a group, as a couple or even on your own. There is something for everyone!
 Astronomy. Each summer's programme is better than the last. There are activities as appetising as watching the sunrise or sunset from the Veleta peak and others as interesting as observing the night sky with a large telescope. For astronomy lovers, Sierra Nevada is the best place to enjoy different plans this summer.
E-bike routes. For sports and mountain lovers, Sierra Nevada proposes among its summer activities different routes for cyclists, whether they are experienced or beginners. The views from these trails and paths are worth the effort, and it's a healthy and fun proposal!
Camps. The Sierra Nevada summer camps 2023 think of everything from sports activities to language immersion. You can choose the type of camp according to the preferences of the children and their families. But in any of them they will learn while getting to know the Sierra Nevada.

Nature
And if that wasn't enough, among the summer activities in the Sierra Nevada there are also proposals for the more adventurous. There are routes and excursions designed to show us the lesser-known side of the mountain.
 We all know what the resort looks like with its white blanket in winter, but... What happens when the snow melts? In the mountains 'appear' landscapes and hidden corners that we cannot miss.
 Guided routes. These are excursions in which you can discover the most interesting spots in the resort, guided tours on which you can go as far as the Veleta or marvel at the Laguna de las Yeguas.

Hiking in the high peaks. For the more adventurous, one of the most exciting summer activities in Sierra Nevada is to discover its highest peaks and its glacial lakes. There are several options: climbing the Veleta, climbing the Veleta and Los Machos or climbing the Tajos de la Virgen and Elorrieta.
In any of these options, the possibility of being in contact with nature is already reason enough to dare to start the journey.
What Sierra Nevada sounds like in summer
And if the Sierra Nevada and its summer activities were lacking in entertainment, there is also music, a traditional companion of the resort's summer nights.
The musical novelty of the season is the cycle La Bodega DJ'S &amp; Barbecue, high quality cuisine enlivened with sessions by renowned international DJ's such as Don Gonzalo, Mobox, Migueline and Donatella. Admission is free, with prior reservation of a table for dinner. 
 As every summer, the festival Por todo lo alto returns, which celebrates its thirteenth edition between 18 and 19 August, to enjoy rock bands such as Doctor Explosión, No Picky or Sarajevo'84.
 Among the musical novelties, the Granada International Music and Dance Festival moved to the Sierra Nevada on 15 July with a free concert by the band Apache, paying tribute to Pink Floyd and Supertramp.
With this cultural proposal in a unique setting, Sierra Nevada will sound like rock this summer, completing its summer activities in the best possible way.

Sierra Nevada participates in mountain clean-up day

Cetursa Sierra Nevada workers, FAM and FADI sportsmen and women, and resort residents took part in the waste removal campaign prior to the opening of the summer season.
Several dozen Cetursa Sierra Nevada employees, sportsmen and women from the Andalusian Mountain Federation and the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation, as well as residents of Pradollano, took part today in the traditional mountain clean-up day, prior to the opening of the summer season at the ski and mountain resort, scheduled for Saturday 15 July.
The resort has provided the volunteers with the Veleta chairlift to access the higher parts of the mountain and all-terrain vehicles to collect the bags once they have been collected from the different paths and trails in the Borreguiles, Veleta, Rio and Loma de Dílar areas.
 Elements of trail markers affected by the winter storms have made up, together with plastic and cardboard containers, the bulk of the elements that have been appearing among the stones and vegetation on the trails.
The action has been coordinated by the Cetursa Sierra Nevada Slopes Service.

Book presentation: Sierra Nevada – The History of Ropeways

The INTERALPIN trade fair is a unique meeting place for alpine technologies. This year Doppelmayr and Sierra Nevada took the opportunity to present a new book: Sierra Nevada – The history of ropeways written by Juan José Lapuerta Rodríguez – a ropeway and winter sports enthusiast with a passion for history. The book presents the author’s research and unique historic discoveries. It is available in Spanish and English. When in the nineties of the last century Sierra Nevada was a candidate for the organization of the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships, Doppelmayr understood the importance of the project and offered the necessary funding to carry it out being one of the elements of the success of this event in 1996. That is why the history of Sierra Nevada has been linked to Doppelmayr for decades.
But an unexpected derivative of this long relationship is that Juan José Lapuerta Rodríguez, who learned to ski in Sierra Nevada and studied civil engineering at the University of Granada, has ended up working for Doppelmayr in Wolfurt. Juan José is a restless man who is involved in various social initiatives, both in Austria and in Spain. For example, activities for the children of the village where he lives in the Bregenzerwald or the recovery of an old tramway that used to get the first skiers into what is now the Sierra Nevada National Park. Juan José Lapuerta Rodríguez began to study the lifts of the Sierra Nevada and, what at first was only a stimulus for his intellectual curiosity, became the project for a book that has recently been presented in Spain and is now being presented in its English version at the trade fair INTERALPIN 2023. Doppelmayr and Sierra Nevada have again collaborated to support this project.
Michael Doppelmayr, Chairman of the Board of the Doppelmayr Group, and the CEO of Sierra Nevada, Jesús Ibáñez, have highlighted the important research work done by Juan José Lapuerta Rodríguez with unpublished data on the history of ski lifts in general and in particular on those of Sierra Nevada. During his research Juan José Lapuerta Rodríguez’s curiosity led him to discovered a photograph of the ski resort Bödele from 1907 that shows what is supposed to be the very first ski lift – a unique piece of history which is presented in the book.
The book “Sierra Nevada – The History of Ropeways” highlights the importance and efforts of the snow industry to provide safe and future-proof entertainment for new generations. Snow is a great place to be and ski lifts bring the world of snow to everyone. It is not only a history of the machines, it is also the history of the men who built and used them. This approach also makes the book even more human and personal.

Sierra Nevada Por Todo lo Alto festival announces the first bands for this summer

The 13th edition of the Sierra Nevada por Todo lo Alto Festival is not long in coming and in 2023 the first advance is sooner than ever to announce that this year will be its most punk rock edition. The dates, as usual, are the third weekend of August, Friday 18th and Saturday 19th.
In this first preview of the line-up, with a very seventies design, two anniversaries are confirmed to be celebrated in the highest summit. On the one hand, one of the legendary bands that will close the bill on one of the summer nights in the middle of the mountains of Granada are celebrating a very special birthday, their 30th anniversary. The Asturians DOCTOR EXPLOSIÓN, after eleven years retired from the stage, are back with their explosive garage rock. They have just released a new album "Superioridad moral" with which they intend to stick out their tongues, show their asses or whatever it takes, and they will do it in Sierra Nevada where they will perform for the first time.
Another of the anniversaries of the festival will be the most fun with the most punkish band from Malaga, NO PICKY, who are celebrating the 27th anniversary of their emblematic album "Vampira (WPR 2002), which was re-released in a very special blood red format two years ago. Now they will remember live many of their most vampiric songs but they will come to Sierra Nevada por todo lo Alto with surprises because they will present live their new album scheduled for release on April 21st.
To close this first preview, as usual, we can not miss the visibility of the music scene in Granada which will be represented by SARAJEVO 84 and their garage britpop that will leave more than one breathless.

Sierra Nevada well-equipped for skiers with disabilities

How to practise skiing or snowboarding adapted for people with reduced mobility
Nowadays, it is possible to practise winter sports adapted for people with disabilities or reduced mobility, as the ski resorts are prepared to receive people with functional diversity.
Sierra Nevada has been a pioneer in adapted skiing with the elimination of architectural barriers, the preparation of spaces and equipment and the promotion of courses for people with disabilities. 
The best way to practise adapted alpine skiing is to learn in small group courses with instructors trained to cater for people with different types of disabilities.
There are also individual classes adapted to the skill level and particular needs of each person. The schools offer both beginners' and advanced courses.
Sierra Nevada also has the advantage of being one of the most accessible ski resorts in Spain thanks to:

Likewise, professional competition teams of adapted alpine skiing at world level regularly train on the slopes of Sierra Nevada and the resort hosts different competitions, such as the Santiveri Sierra Nevada Trophy in which skiers with physical and sensory disabilities take part.

Beginner's skiers guide, 10 things you must do before you start

<li style="text-align: justify;">If you have decided to take up winter sports, congratulations! They are exciting and if you follow a few simple recommendations, you will be able to enjoy the snow from the first day.</li>

1.- What should I know before coming to Sierra Nevada?
We recommend you to visit our website: https://sierranevada.es/en/. Take a look at our webcams to get an idea of the state of the slopes and get an overview of the resort. It is also important to familiarise yourself with the snow report and all its details: the names of the pistes, lifts, snow conditions, etc.
In the resort section you will find all the information on Sierra Nevada services: how to get there, internal transport, restaurants, nurseries and a section dedicated to safety on the slopes.
2.- What do I have to do before going up?
It is very important to book accommodation in advance, especially in the high season.
We also recommend that you buy your ski pass before you come. If you buy it online, the price is cheaper. On the other hand, if you belong to a family unit, the resort has several discounted rates that adapt to all types of families and ages. To benefit from these discounts, it is indispensable to make the purchase online.
Likewise, the university community and young people with European card have their own promotions.

3.- Should I start with a ski school?
Sierra Nevada has more than 400 qualified instructors who teach all types of winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, Telemark...).
The best way to get started and not spend the whole day trying to keep your feet up, which is very frustrating, is to book a private instructor or take a course. There is a wide range of options, and many of the schools can rent you the equipment or even offer you an all-inclusive package.
The schools are all located in Pradollano, but they also have offices in Borreguiles (ski area), located on the side of the Al-Andalus gondola lift, to assist their clients.

4.- What to wear in the snow?
Warm, waterproof clothing and footwear is recommended. It is best to dress in layers to be able to adapt easily to the temperature changes. The air between layers is the best insulator.
It is important to remember to wear: gloves, goggles, and hat. If you are going to ski or snowboard, as with other sports such as cycling, a helmet is recommended. The speed and the existence of obstacles make it important to protect yourself well.
While enjoying the snow, we sometimes forget that we are exposed to dangerous ultraviolet rays. We should protect ourselves with a sun cream of at least factor 30.
The cold often conceals the feeling of thirst, but to keep your muscles working properly, you need to stay well hydrated.
5.- Where do I hire equipment?
The resort has a wide range of ski and snowboard equipment for hire. It is worth renting your own equipment, much better than borrowing it. The rental shop will advise you on which skis or snowboard is best suited to your beginner level.
You can even go to the piste area without equipment and rent it there, if that's more convenient for you.

 6.- Where do I buy or collect my ski pass?
If you have already purchased your ski pass online, you can go to one of the cash machines located in the Plaza de Andalucía, the covered car park or the Parador chairlift (the urban chairlift) and collect your ski pass with the QR code that you receive at the end of your purchase.
If you are going to buy directly at the resort, Sierra Nevada has ticket offices located next to the cash machines to make the purchase in person. To avoid waiting, on Fridays and Saturdays there are advance sales until 21:45.
7.- How do I access the beginners' slopes?
There are several ski lifts that give access to the slopes. Beginners access the initiation area via one of the two Pradollano gondola lifts:
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li>Al-Andalus cable car: This is the most convenient mechanical lift for beginners, as just at the exit is the green slopes (the easiest) of Borreguiles.</li>
<li>Borreguiles cable car: The access is parallel to the Al-Andalus cable car. On arrival at the piste area you can access via two escalators to the exit to the slopes. In its shopping gallery you can rent ski and snowboard equipment or buy some accessories in the resort's official shop.</li>

8.- On which tracks should I begin?
The skills must be acquired progressively, going from the easiest to the most difficult.
The slopes are grouped by colour depending on their difficulty:
<ul>
<li>Green: Very Easy. For beginners.</li>
<li>Blue: Easy. Medium level. Parallel skiers.</li>
<li>Red: Difficult. Good skiers or snowboarders.</li>
<li>Black: Very difficult. Expert.</li>
</ul>
Snow and weather conditions can accentuate the difficulty. We must know our own limitations and stay on the slopes of our level until we can move on to others of a higher level. Better not to take any risks!

9.- Which lifts are the most suitable to start with?
Once in the piste area, you have to start with the conveyor belts or magic carpets
The closest to the cable cars is the Borreguiles magic carpet, which is usually used to access the conveyors that are higher up and less steep: the Bosque carpet, the Maitena carpet and the Dauro carpet.
Once you know how to make wedge turns or have learned how to turn on a snowboard, it is time to start going up the chairlift.
You can start with the Emile Allais chairlift, going left at the top station, which has the gentlest slope. Then you can continue with the Borreguiles I chairlift, which has a slightly steeper gradient, and continue with the Veleta II chairlift. The latter has a longer route and gives access to one of the most famous green slopes of the resort: the Perdiz slope.

10.- What are the main safety rules on the slopes?
<ol>
<li>Do not ski or snowboard off-piste or enter closed areas.</li>
<li>Do not go near the edges of the slopes, to avoid going off unexpectedly.</li>
<li>For the same reason, it is advisable to stay away from windbreaks, canyons, towers or other obstacles.</li>
<li>Keep skis and snowboards well prepared (edges, soles, bindings). A little maintenance of the equipment guarantees more pleasure and control.</li>

Historia del Emile Allais

<li>Mítico esquiador francés, creador de un estilo que marcó la historia moderna del esquí, Allais fue uno de los responsables del actual enclave del dominio esquiable de Sierra Nevada</li>
</ul>
El nuevo telesilla Emile Allais, una de las grandes novedades de Sierra Nevada para esta temporada -junto con el telesilla Alhambra, antiguo Veleta II-, ha rescatado de la memoria al esquiador francés que dio nombre a un remonte que, con algunos cambios a lo largo de su historia, está en Borreguiles desde mediados de los años 70.
Hasta aquella década, el esquí en Sierra Nevada se realizaba en la zona del albergue Universitario y Cauchiles.
El cambio de ubicación de Borreguiles, una zona situada a gran altitud (2.700m) y bien resguardada de los vientos, se reveló un acierto en poco tiempo. Que surgiera el eje Veleta-Borreguiles-Rio, la columna vertebral de la estación de esquí era una cuestión que se fue asentando como válida temporada tras temporada.
Con la creación de Cetursa, y con el suizo Erick Archer como director general, se produjo, entre otras actuaciones, la contratación de la consultora Denis Creissels, una empresa que, bajo su actual denominación, DCSA, sigue siendo, como entonces, un referente mundial en el diseño de estaciones de esquí.

Es así como, de la mano de Denis Creissels, Emile Allais llegó a Sierra Nevada en 1970.
El considerado padre del esquí moderno* contribuyó a la creación del dominio esquiable en la zona de Borreguiles, tal y como lo conocemos ahora. También planteó allí el recorrido de los primeros telesquís: el Borreguiles I y posteriormente el Veleta, y sentó las bases para los que vinieron después.
El primer Emile Allais arrancó en marzo de 1974 siendo un telesquí con una línea similar al remonte actual, pero con un recorrido más corto. En la temporada 1979/80, el telesquí alargó su trazado hasta alcanzar el desnivel que presenta actualmente. En 1987 el telesquí pasó a ser un telesilla de 4 plazas que el 24 de abril de 2022 prestó su último servicio.
El sábado 3 de diciembre de 2022, si el tiempo no lo impide, el nombre de Emile Allais volverá a brillar en Borreguiles con un flamante telesilla desembragable de 6 plazas de última generación en el corazón de la estación de esquí que el mito francés contribuyó a crear.

(*) Emile Allais creó la técnica de esquí francesa sobre la base de un movimiento que se transmite de arriba abajo, similar al snowboard de hoy, y que entonces se llamaba “appel-rotation”. Esta técnica tuvo gran predicamento en España hasta que la Escuela Española de Esquí se inclinó por la escuela austríaca y el movimiento “rotación-contrarotación”. Hoy, a causa del esquí entallado o “carving” todo el mundo va de cara a los esquís y esas diferencias entre las dos grandes escuelas han, en gran parte, desaparecido.

Christophe Tambourin es ejecutivo jefe de DCSA, la consultora para la elaboración del proyecto de los nuevos telesillas Emile Allais y Alhambra. Es la misma para la que trabajó Emile Allais en la década de los 70 en Sierra Nevada. Tambourin opina sobre la actuación de los dos telesillas:

<li style="text-align: justify;">SOBRE LA OPTIMIZACIÓN DE BORREGUILES: “DCSA ha compartido desde primer momento la concepción interna de Cetursa sobre la optimización del área de Principiantes. Hemos ido de la mano en la definición de esa zona junto con la empresa adjudicataria de los remontes, Doppelmayr”. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">SOBRE CONCEPCIÓN GLOBAL DE LA ZONA: “El espacio de esquí que genera el telesilla Alhambra es una muy buena zona de principiantes y encaja en la concepción global del espacio, de un área de iniciación de distintos niveles (con las alfombras, el Emile Allais y el Alhambra, con su nuevo recorrido)” </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">SOBRE LOS REMONTES: “Además de las características propias de cada telesilla, ha sido también muy importante en la definición de los remontes sus características técnicas como la reducción del consumo, la optimización, edificios con protección total de los vehículos, así como las cintas de embarques”.</li>
