Those who know the Sierra Nevada well know that spring is one of the best times of the season to enjoy skiing, especially if the resort keeps all the areas open, with good snow thicknesses. The clear skies, the perfectly groomed pistes with a special spring treatment and the pleasant temperatures make this snow, which changes throughout the day, one of the best in the country for skiing at this time of year.
For all these reasons, here are five reasons not to miss skiing in spring:
1.- The snow
In spring, the snow conditions in Sierra Nevada are very special. Due to its altitude, the slopes are kept in very good condition throughout the day. Early in the morning the snow is hard, so it is advisable to start skiing in the lower areas of the resort: Rio, Loma Dilar, Cauchiles..., as the morning progresses the snow begins to melt, to have a layer of 2 or 3 cm of soft snow, so you can go up to the area of Borreguiles, to finish the day in the area of La Laguna or in the Veleta.
Itineraries:
1.- Skiers or snowboarders of medium or high level can choose to start the day by going up to the Loma de Dilar area, it is advisable to start the day's skiing via the Loma Dilar piste until returning to Pradollano; or in the case of experts, opt for the descent of a 'black' piste such as Fuente del Tesoro.
2.- Back in the cable car, skiers and snowboarders can opt for a few descents down Borreguiles - Perdiz, Rebeco, Zorro, Morillas, Granados, etc.-,
3.- After going back up the Stadium chairlift we can do the long run of the El Águila de Cauchiles piste or other red pistes in that area.
4.- Towards midday you can go up to the highest peaks by the Zayas chairlift to ski the slopes closest to the Veleta or to go into the Laguna, where the snow remains in better condition until early afternoon.
5.- Of course, beginner skiers have the green slopes of Borreguiles and the Family Zone of the Mar piste in perfect condition throughout the day and if they reach a certain level, our advice is to try the blue slopes of the Loma de Dilar or Borreguiles.

2.- The weather
According to the resort's weather data, recorded over the years, in April, Sierra Nevada enjoys a high percentage of sunny days. The temperatures in this month are milder, which makes skiing easier for the youngest skiers and also makes it easier for beginners to take to skiing, as they do not have to suffer the rigours of winter.
3.- The prices

you don't have a ski pass yet, you can withdraw it at the station's cash machines. The purchase of the 2-day SPRING ski pass -for the same person- is limited to one order per person. These passes can be used on any day of the 2021-2022 season, on alternate or consecutive days.

For many years Sierra Nevada has been activating every season the El Subidón promotion for the purchase of ski days at very special prices. Designed for the university community, it is open to university students as well as teachers and administrative and service staff.
El Subidón is valid for undergraduate and postgraduate students at universities associated with the CRUE and the EUA. To benefit from the promotion, all you have to do is make an application through the website (www.elsubidon.es) attaching the supporting documentation to the Sierra Nevada Club account.
Once the documentation has been approved, you can access two products at very advantageous prices: Expert 2 days and Long Expert 5 days. 
5.- Use your European Youth Card to get important discounts.
The European Youth Card is valid in more than 40 countries, and with it you can enjoy discounts on all kinds of experiences: travel, leisure, culture, fashion, beauty... and of course winter sports in Sierra Nevada. This card is open to young people up to the age of 31.
At the resort you can get a 10% discount on season and long-stay passes (10, 15 and 20 days). The application allows you to download your video of the descent in the Giant Slalom "Audi" circuit in Sierra Nevada.

To enjoy Skiline you only have to add your ski pass number through the application and we will tell you the accumulated number of days and other data for the whole season (days of skiing, km skied, accumulated vertical drop, etc). The number you have to enter in the system is the small number printed on the card. You must enter it on the skiline.cc page after selecting the ski resort, in our case it is Granada-Spain and then Sierra Nevada, this is the one that corresponds to our internal system of cards.

The heated terrace El Torreón, designed with modern and comfortable furniture, low tables and hammocks, offers skiers a unique atmosphere, a gourmet experience and a tasting point for the exquisite Moët &amp; Chandon champagne. The special feature of this establishment is the careful service on the cordoned-off terrace and the attention you receive at the table with a special premium menu.
This season, you can enjoy delicious salads, a wide variety of toasts or gourmet hamburgers. You can also pair toasts or desserts with a glass or bottle of Moët &amp; Chandon.

SIERRA NEVADA ALREADY ADMITS BIZUM AS A FORM OF PAYMENT FOR ONLINE RESERVATIONS

On July 30, the Sierra Nevada ski resort launched Bizum as a new payment alternative for our customers. The purpose is to offer Sierra Nevada customers the possibility of paying for their purchases of ski passes or services with a fast, simple and versatile system such as BIZUM. For those younger customers who still do not have a credit or debit card, this option is the best.
Sierra Nevada has many clients with this profile and the implementation of this payment system makes us at the forefront. Bizum is a payment method that, due to its simplicity and speed, has had enormous growth and depth since its launch among the population.
One of the keys to its success is that it allows you to pay without having to provide any bank details, just your phone number. Previously, the client has to activate Bizum in their bank to be able to use it, but it is a very simple operation and almost all banks allow it to be activated with a “click” from the client's electronic banking system. The process in our online store is very simple: The customer accesses, at the end of their cart, the different payment options and chooses Bizum.

LIFTS
The most significant action in terms of investment and impact on the ski area is the installation of four new lifts in the Sierra Nevada for the new season. If last season the challenge of putting two new chairlifts into operation - replacing two old ones - was already formidable, this season Sierra Nevada has taken a further leap towards modernising its facilities, and the transport and distribution of users, with the replacement of the old Al Ándalus gondola lift (33 years in service), the installation of two new chairlifts between Loma de Dílar and El Río, and an initiation carpet on the Borreguiles plain.
All four, if there are no construction problems, will come into operation almost simultaneously between the Puente de la Constitución and the start of the Christmas holidays.
The new Al Ándalus, with an investment of 16.7 million euros (co-financed with FEDER React funds), is a state-of-the-art gondola lift that is faster, more comfortable and more energy efficient. It will have 19 towers (compared to the 25 of the old one), 77 cabins (with a capacity of 10 people per cabin), a linear route of 2.5 kilometres (between Pradollano and Borreguiles), a speed of up to 6 metres/second and a travel time of 8.5 minutes.
The ski lifts El Puente I and II will serve an existing ski area (Víbora, Montebajo, Villén and El Puente slopes) where a new Sierra Nevada training and competition area will now be promoted. This will decongest the Monachil chairlift and the Loma de Dílar area, where at present - especially at weekends - Andalusian racing teams and tourist skiers mix, creating traffic problems and possibly safety problems.
With the transfer of training sessions and official races to the El Puente area, a competition stadium will be created, equipped for the high performance of Andalusian racers. The double ski lift, which competitors will have preferential, but not exclusive, use, has a cost of 4.1 million euros, of which 2.5 million euros corresponds to the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Tourism and Sports (the rest, 1.6 million euros is paid by Cetursa), which subsidised the project to support the clubs and the 3,000 athletes of the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation (FADI).
The fourth lift is an initiation carpet in Borreguiles; the Dauro II carpet will cross the Borreguiles plain diagonally; this new carpet marks the beginning of the remodelling of the beginners' area with the aim of creating a semi-enclosed area where beginners can learn in safe conditions and in a fun atmosphere. The new carpet has a double ribbon with a gallery, 179 metres long and a capacity of 1,500 people/hour.

SNOW PRODUCTION
The renovation of the nerve centre of snow production in Sierra Nevada completed this summer has closed the great transformation of the system undertaken five seasons ago with the replacement of almost all of the old cannons with the latest generation devices, now more effective and efficient.
Thus, this summer, in addition to the incorporation of 32 new high and low pressure cannons, it has been the turn of changing the old compressors and water pumps, the 'heart' of the snow produced in the resort, which are more than 40 years old.
The new compressors are smaller and less powerful than the old ones (they require four times less electrical power) and their air consumption in relation to the water converted into snow is 25 times lower. This means that the new compressors are adapted at all times to the real compressed air needs of the new cannons installed in Sierra Nevada.
Furthermore, the so-called compressor building, which has been completely refurbished, will no longer be the only one housing these compressed air generation devices, but will be distributed by zones (Loma de Dílar) to optimise production, minimise energy loss, and reduce the time needed to activate the system, thus making more efficient use of lower temperatures.
The renovation of snow production at the Granada resort, co-financed with more than 5 million euros in ERDF React funds, will include changes to other electrical systems and water pipes installed over the years, making the Sierra Nevada snow production system one of the most modern, environmentally and energetically sustainable in the entire winter sports sector.

HYBRID SNOW GROOMING MACHINES
This season, Cetursa Sierra Nevada incorporates 4 new hybrid snow grooming machines, making the Granadan winter resort, with 8 in total, a world leader in the use of sustainable machines for grooming and snow maintenance in the ski area.
Sierra Nevada already had 4 Pisten Bully 600 E+, with combined diesel and electric propulsion, which reduce energy consumption and produce 20% less CO2 emissions, as well as being quieter. The arrival of the new machines means the "retirement" of four of the older ones.
The new machines, designed and manufactured - like the previous ones - by Kässbohrer, the German multinational awarded the public tender, are co-financed by the Andalusian ERDF Operational Programme through the REACT-EU resources for energy saving projects.
The autonomy of the hybrid conveyor belts, understood as the refuelling interval, is greater than that of the conventional Pisten Bully 600, thanks to its lower fuel consumption. Intelligent energy management ensures that the electric motors function as generators and support the hydraulic pumps via the distribution box during descents.
On the other hand, Sierra Nevada - which has a total of 22 treadmill machines - will test HVO biodiesel as a sustainable fuel during the 23/24 season. The tests will be carried out with two machines to see how it responds and how it is used.

THEMED SLOPES
This season, Sierra Nevada will have 4 new themed slopes to make the skiing day more fun for children and their parents. Thus, new figures and ski circuits will be added to the El Mar slope, which had allegorical elements of the seabed, before reaching the shark's mouth, which is one of the icons of the slope.
Further down, in the beginners' area, there will be the Kids Fun Trail, where the youngest skiers will be able to interact with forest and mountain animals and go down a skills circuit.
In the Montebajo area, the Family Fun Trail will be set up, where families will be able to go down the slopes by means of interactive elements, while in Cauchiles there will be a route with a theme related to the Iberian fauna.

INFORMATION ON WAITING TIMES
This season, Sierra Nevada is implementing a special access control system which, by means of special people counting cameras, will extract information on the approximate waiting times for boarding the ski lifts, with the ultimate aim of providing customers with the best options for accessing or enjoying the ski areas.
The system will be implemented in particularly significant ski lifts in the Sierra Nevada: the two cable cars, the Jara, Monachil, Stadium and Laguna chairlifts. The information will be displayed on the lift screens and, alternatively, the most popular access and skiing areas will be recommended.
In addition to the physical screens, the same information will be available on the resort's website and App.
