Sierra Nevada has closed this Sunday, May 4, the winter season 2024/25 and, as usual, has done so as the only skiable offer in Southern Europe thanks to the extension by one week of the planned calendar, and as the winter center with greater activity of the Peninsula with 143 days of skiing, plus another 13 days of exclusively tourist use coinciding in the start of the campaign.
Thus, the winter resort of Granada has concluded the season with a total of 1,250,000 users, 12.5 percent more than the previous season, thanks to the improvement of all the indicators; of the total number of users 861,400 were skiers (+10%), 156,000, visitors of cable car (+22%) and 233,000, of activities (+15%). This last figure represents an all-time record of visitors to snow activities for non-skiers in Pradollano (Mirlo Blanco complex) and Borreguiles.
Of the total number of skiers, more than 96% were of Spanish nationality, and among them, the majority came from Andalusia (73%) and Madrid (11%). The occupancy rate, from December to May, was 62 percent of the hotel plant in Pradollano.
As in the rest of the Peninsula, the season started with many complications due to lack of rainfall, which forced to open the resort facilities since November 30 in tourist use, that is, with an open gondola lift and snow activities in Borreguiles, until December 13, when the ski season was launched.&nbsp;
Thanks to the snowmaking system, especially relevant at the beginning of the season, Sierra Nevada gradually increased its skiable offer, although it was not until the “traditional” snowfall of Epiphany when the first slopes of the Veleta area could be opened.
From then on, the resort improved its performance, reached in February the third best number of skiers since there are records (273,400) and in March a succession of snow precipitation led to the opening of all areas and lifts of Sierra Nevada with the best ski conditions of the season.
From November 30, 2024 to May 4, 2025, Sierra Nevada recorded 364.8 liters per square meter, of which 245.4 were in the form of snow in the lower part of the ski area and 329.3 in the upper area (from Borreguiles to Veleta). The average thickness on the slopes ranged from 45 centimeters (minimum) to 90 centimeters (maximum).&nbsp;
Throughout the season, wind storms caused the closure of the facilities on 12 occasions, ten of them total and two partial.&nbsp;
