The winter resort of Sierra Nevada will open this Friday the ski season 2024/25 with an inaugural ski offer that will be established in the snow report of tomorrow Thursday (16:00 hours approx).
The slopes and lifts that will be put into service on the opening day will depend on the progress in snow production and the eventual snowfall that some weather forecasts indicate.
Slopes and lifts in the Borreguiles Beginners area are considered guaranteed for this Friday, although this initial forecast may vary for the weekend.
Currently, the snowmaking system is concentrating production in the Principiantes and El Río areas. The snow groomers are already performing snow conditioning works, prior to the opening of the ski season.
The snow activities for pedestrians, which until now have been operating next to the Borreguiles carpet, will be moved to their usual location and to the Mirlo Blanco activity complex in Pradollano.
The subway parking lot in the Plaza de Andalucía, which has been free since November 30, will become pay parking this Friday.
The Parador chairlift, which runs through the urbanization of Pradollano, will open from Saturday.

Sierra Nevada maintains the tourist opening for the long weekend

Sierra Nevada will continue this bank holiday with snow activities for non-skiers in the Borreguiles area, which will be accessed by the Al Ándalus gondola lift and the Borreguiles carpet, which will be operational during the usual winter timetable, from 09:00 to 16:45.
In Borreguiles, users will find a snow area for sledges and donuts next to the Borreguiles carpet. The shop located at the top station of the Al Ándalus gondola lift will be open. &nbsp;The Central Grill restaurant in the Borreguiles building and ‘The puro Burger’ hamburger bar will also be open.
In Pradollano, the Mirlo Blanco activity complex will be up and running with the Mirlo sledge, slides with sliding carpet with donuts, as in summer, and the ice rink from 6 December.
The Al Ándalus and Borreguiles rentals will be open for use of the ski lockers and lockers.
The underground car park in the Plaza de Andalucía will be free of charge.
Sierra Nevada, which has produced occasional snow in recent days, is waiting for the abrupt drop in temperatures from Saturday to activate the snow system in optimal conditions, with the forecast that the ski season can be inaugurated in the second half of next week.
In the meantime, the offer of activities for non-skiers in Sierra Nevada will be maintained, until further evaluation of the weather situation and snow conditions in the first days of next week, when information on the opening for skiing will be given.

Sierra Nevada open only for tourist use

Sierra Nevada has opened on Saturday, 30 November, snow activities for non-skiers in the Borreguiles area, which is accessed by the Al Ándalus gondola lift and the Borreguiles carpet, which will be operational during the usual winter timetable, from 09:00 to 16:45.
In Borreguiles, users can enjoy a snow area for sledges and doughnuts next to the Borreguiles carpet. The shop at the top station of the Al Ándalus gondola and the Central Grill restaurant in the Borreguiles building are also open to the public.
In Pradollano, the Mirlo Blanco activity complex is in operation with the Mirlo sledge, slides with sliding carpet with doughnuts, as in summer, and the ice rink from 6 December.
The Al Ándalus and Borreguiles rentals are open for ski storage and lockers.
The underground car park in the Plaza de Andalucía is free of charge until 5 December.
This offer of activities in Sierra Nevada will be maintained until further evaluation of the weather and snow conditions in the first days of next week.

Sierra Nevada opens the summer season with a concert by rock band Apache

A concert by the band Apache, in collaboration with the Granada Music and Dance Festival, opens this Saturday (21.30h in the Plaza de Andalucía, free) the summer programme in the ski and mountain resort, which will continue with mountain activities, electric bikes, sports, music and astro-tourism activities until 25 August.
&nbsp;The recital by the legendary cover band is already a classic at the start of summer in Sierra Nevada. Hours before the Apache start with their repertoire of the best pop rock of all time, the summer facilities and activities on the great mountain of Granada will already be up and running.
&nbsp;Two ski lifts (the Al-Andalus gondola lift and the Veleta chairlift) will take users from the 2,100 metres of Pradollano to 3,000 metres above sea level, from where some of the most attractive mountain trails in the Sierra Nevada, such as the route to the Veleta, Tajos de la Virgen, Elorrieta or Mulhacén and the excursions to the lagoons around the resort (Yeguas, Lagunillos de la Virgen or La Caldera) will start.
&nbsp;At the same time, the Mirlo Blanco activity park will open with facilities for children and families, the swimming pool at the Montebajo sports club and the guided routes on electric bicycles.

El programa de astronomía volverá a girar sobre las observaciones del amanecer y atardecer desde el Veleta, visitas al observatorio astronómico, excursiones para la observación de la luna o el cielo nocturno y las jornadas de observación de las Perseidas (9 y 10 de agosto) como fechas más destacadas.

La oferta cultural se completará con el festival de rock Sierra Nevada por Todo lo Alto, que volverá a ser el plato fuerte del programa musical (23 y 24 de agosto). El viernes 23 tendrá como cabeza de cartel al grupo Mujeres y también actuaran Alerta Cross y Berrinches. El sábado es el turno de Hins, Jornada B y Red Soul Community.
&nbsp;La festividad de la Virgen de las Nieves de Pradollano, del 2 al 5 de agosto con la tradicional romería a los Tajos de la Virgen la madrugada del 4 de&nbsp;agosto.
&nbsp;La Cicloturista al Veleta (cicloturismo) y el Subida Internacional Pico Veleta (ultrafondo) componen el programa deportivo del verano&nbsp;2024.
&nbsp;Durante el verano, un buen número de restaurantes y establecimientos de alojamiento garantizarán el disfrute estival de Sierra Nevada, donde el paisaje de alta montaña y las suaves temperaturas volverán a ser sus grandes atractivos.

Hinds and Mujeres, headliners of the Sierra Nevada Por Todo lo Alto Festival

The SIERRA NEVADA POR TODO LO ALTO Festival, the highest altitude musical event of the summer in Spain, has a full line-up for its 14th edition which, as always free of charge, will be held on 23rd and 24th August in the Plaza de Andalucía in Pradollano.
Three bands per night and a morning children's programme dedicated to the little ones make up the combination of rock, mountains and family for one of the most unique events on the national festival scene. 
The first of the most important names to come up to the mountain this year is one of the female rock bands that the organisers have had their eye on for years and that had been impossible to book due to scheduling: THE HINDS. In this 14th edition of the SIERRA NEVADA POR TODO LO ALTO Festival, the guitar rock of one of our most international bands will be playing at the top.
The other leading group is MUJERES. MUJERES is part of the emotional memory of several generations: of those who, like them, went back to striped T-shirts and old instruments. Once again they are back with new songs.
The Granadian festival, which is characterised as a family festival to be enjoyed in the middle of nature, cannot forget its musical workshops for children given by the music school Gabba Hey, which are held every year in morning sessions and divided by age. These workshops are usually sold out in minutes. Very soon we will be announcing the dates and instruments chosen for this year's workshops, remembering that places are limited. With the sponsorship of San Miguel beers, the SIERRA NEVADA POR TODO LO ALTO will once again be one of the most awaited festivals to say goodbye to the summer.

The Spanish rider (Movistar SBX Team), Lucas Eguibar, has qualified today for the first Snowboard Cross World Cup this weekend in Sierra Nevada along with the rest of the favourites except the recently proclaimed world champion in Bakuriani (Georgia) and fourth overall in this year's world circuit, the Austrian Jakob Dusek.
Eguibar, who had set the second fastest time in yesterday's practice sessions, dominated his heat, which also included the promising Álvaro Romero who, upset in the first corner of the circuit by Canadian Tristan Bell, came in third and was eliminated from Saturday's final rounds.
Bernat Rivera and Antoni Toledo also missed out on tomorrow's first World Cup after finishing third in their respective rounds.
In order to better preserve the course, affected by yesterday afternoon's rain, the FIS replaced the time classification system with the usual one for the final rounds in which the first two of each round have moved on to tomorrow's race.

The greats of the snowboard cross discipline, such as the top three in the overall World Cup, Martin Noerl (GER), Loan Bozzolo (FRA) and Omar Visintin, or the great dominators of SBX in the last decade (Alexandro Haemmerle, Eliot Grondin, Lorenzo Sommariva or Paul Berg), will be tomorrow alongside Lucas Eguibar in the fight for the podium of the first World Cup of this weekend in the winter resort of Granada.
"I'm as happy as the last time I took part in Sierra Nevada, I feel comfortable, I like the course, it's a track where you have to be aggressive. Besides, the team has done a great job with the boards and we are being fast. I'm looking forward to competing very well because after a World Championships where I couldn't give my best, I'm really looking forward to it, and having the support of my family and friends makes me even more motivated", said Eguibar at the finish line of the Loma de Dílar.
The other three riders of the Spanish team will have to wait for their chance in Sunday's second World Cup.

The favourites in tomorrow's final
In the women's field, the big names of the world circuit, Lindsey Jacobellis, Raffaela Brutto, Chloe Trespeuch or Eva Amamcykova, will be in tomorrow's final rounds of the circuit.
All of them passed with sufficiency except the French Trespeuch, the leader of the World Cup, who had to wait for the photo finish to know if she will be able to defend the podium (second) she obtained in 2020 in the same circuit of Sierra Nevada.
The competition, sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía with the co-financing of the European Union, is held just after the World Snowboard Championships in Bakuriani (Georgia) and before the last two races (in Veysonnaz, Switzerland; and Mr. St. Ann, Canada) that will close the annual circuit of the SBX World Cup.
