  • The resort proposes to its fans on social medias to change the name of the Veleta II among four options previously chosen by the resort's workers.

Cetursa Sierra Nevada has asked its followers on social media to choose the name of one of the two new chairlifts that the Granadan winter resort will use for the 2022/23 season.

The lift chosen for the name change is the Veleta II, in order to avoid redundancies - and some confusion - with the Veleta chairlift, located right next to it in the Borreguiles area.

Before consulting Sierra Nevada's followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter - with more than 250,000 fans altogether - Cetursa Sierra Nevada consulted internally among the resort's employees, who were provided with a dozen names referring to places, summits and lakes in the Sierra Nevada, as well as monuments and historical names linked to the city of Granada.

After the internal consultation, the resort's social media will be in charge of renaming the old Veleta II chairlift with one of the names most voted so far: Mulhacén, Nazarí, Alhambra or Elorrieta.

The poll will be available on the social profiles of Cetursa Sierra Nevada until 7 October.

The Veleta II will be one of the two new chairlifts in Sierra Nevada next winter season, together with the new Emile Allais.

The old Veleta II, a fixed-grip chairlift with three seats per chair, will become a six-seater detachable chairlift with fewer bollards, greater capacity and speed, and a 455-metre shorter route in order to, in connection with the Emile Allais, provide a better distribution of beginner skiers in the Borreguiles area.

The Emile Allais, with the same route, but with fewer bollards, will change from a fixed grip chairlift with 4 places per chair to a detachable chairlift with 6 places per chair, with greater capacity and speed. Between them, the total investment is more than 21 million euros, co-financed with ERDF React funds.
