Sierra Nevada has shown that it can guarantee the opening of the resort with quality snow, even in conditions of absolute lack of precipitation. Not surprisingly, the resort has a modern snow production system, one of the largest in Spain.

This facility has been the main investment effort within the services of the Ski Resort, with the aim of offering skiers and snowboarders optimal conditions during the winter season.

What is snow produced?

The snow produced is snow generated by snowmaking systems that transform water and air into small snow crystals when the weather conditions are favourable. Its function is to complement the natural snow, reinforce the snow cover and ensure adequate preparation of the slopes.

Thanks to this technology, Sierra Nevada can maintain optimal conditions for skiing and snowboarding, especially in periods with little rainfall.

The snow production system in figures

459 snow cannons distributed throughout different sectors of the resort.
45 slopes with snow cover.
195,000 m³ of water storage capacity.
One of the most important snowmaking systems in Spain.
More than 250 state-of-the-art automated equipment.

Sierra Nevada's snow production network combines different snowmaking technologies to adapt to the characteristics of each slope and the weather conditions at any given time. This diversity of systems makes it possible to optimise snow production and ensure greater operational efficiency.

The main types of cannons used in the station and their technical characteristics are described below.
